Filtration, softening and water testing

Water quality work is worth starting with a test rather than with a product. Spots on glassware, a smell, dry skin and a scaled up kettle have different causes, and the equipment that fixes one does nothing for another.

What this covers

  • Water testing to establish what is in the supply
  • Whole house filtration installation
  • Water softener installation and replacement
  • Under sink drinking water filters
  • Reverse osmosis systems
  • Carbon filters for taste and odor
  • Sediment filtration for well supplied properties
  • Servicing and re bedding existing equipment

Call about this when

  • Spots or film on glasses straight out of the dishwasher
  • Scale building on fixtures and inside the kettle
  • A chlorine or sulfur smell from the tap
  • Soap that will not lather properly
  • Staining in sinks, tubs or the toilet bowl

Worth knowing before you call

Most Grand Strand properties are on public water from a surface water plant, and your utility publishes an annual water quality report you can read for free before you spend anything. Start there. It will tell you what is in the supply as it leaves the plant, which is the baseline any salesperson should be working from.

Be careful with free in home water tests offered by companies that sell treatment equipment. The test and the recommendation come from the same party. An independent lab test costs very little and it means the equipment recommendation is answering a question rather than making one up.

Batch it. The trip charge is the expensive part of a small plumbing job, and it is the same whether the plumber fixes one thing or five. Before you call, walk the house and write down everything: the toilet that runs, the shower that will not hold temperature, the faucet you have been meaning to replace since last year. Hand over the whole list at once. It is the single easiest way to spend less.
