Fixture upgrades and remodel rough in
Remodel plumbing is the part of a renovation nobody photographs and everybody pays for twice if it is done in the wrong order. The plumbing rough in happens while the walls are open, and it is the one stage that is expensive to revisit.
What this covers
- Bathroom and kitchen remodel rough in
- Moving a sink, toilet, tub or shower to a new location
- Converting a tub to a walk in shower
- Adding a bathroom or a laundry connection
- Running supply and drain lines for an island sink
- Upgrading fixtures throughout a house
- Coordinating inspection stages with your contractor
Call about this when
- You are planning a bathroom or kitchen renovation
- You want to move a fixture rather than replace it in place
- You are converting a tub to a walk in shower
- You are adding a bathroom, a wet bar or a laundry
- Your contractor has asked you to line up a licensed plumber
Worth knowing before you call
Get the plumber in before the demolition rather than after it. Moving a drain is constrained by where the existing stack is and by the fall the new line needs, and those constraints are cheaper to hear about while the layout is still on paper. The classic expensive surprise is an island sink in a slab house, where the drain has to be cut into concrete.
Remodel work is one place where the licensed and insured part matters in a way you can point at. Rough in gets inspected, and an inspector who finds unpermitted work can make you open a finished wall back up. Every company we send your request to is licensed and insured.
Batch it. The trip charge is the expensive part of a small plumbing job, and it is the same whether the plumber fixes one thing or five. Before you call, walk the house and write down everything: the toilet that runs, the shower that will not hold temperature, the faucet you have been meaning to replace since last year. Hand over the whole list at once. It is the single easiest way to spend less.
